6:35 pm

6:39 pm
of rain. more on how much more rain you can expect coming up in the full weather forecast. >> that's so big. >> seriously
6:40 pm
6:41 pm
a possible sign of movement in the fiscal cliff debate. on a morning political talk show senator bob says he and other republicans senators would consider raising the top tax rates for the wealthiest americans when reforms on inteethelment spending. chuck shiewmer says he believes
6:42 pm
they -- schumer says he believes the compromise will be reached. >> i think we will get a deal. i think everyone realizes how important it is. our economy is moving up some and not fast enough but some and to go over that cliff would be terrible. i think we will get an agreement. >> there is a growing group of folks that are looking at this and realizing that we don't have a lot of cards as it relates to the tax issue before year end. we have one house that is it and the presidency and senate and democrats hands. so, a lot of people are putting forth a theory and i think it has merit where you give the president the 2% increase he is talking about and the rate increase on the top 2%. >> you know what is at stake over 3 weeks remaining on the count down clock before some 90% of americans will see the taxes go up. and a series of tax hikes and spending cuts take effect unless the congress agrees on a plan. a just ahead -- just ahead, residents across minnesota and wisconsin digging out from a
6:43 pm
powerful winter storm. and in this area will today's rain give way to dry skies and warmer temperatures this week? erica is back with the full forecast.
6:44 pm
6:45 pm
>> fact inform congress and the white house don't reach an agreement, your paycheck is going to go down. the reason, because the tax withholding in your paycheck will increase. here's back story. current payroll tax cut is set to expire on december 31st. in dollars and cents this means your payroll tax withholding is going from 4.2% to 6.2%. now why is this happening? many of the policies expiring at the end of the year like the payroll tax cut and emergency unemployment benefits were originally passed on a temporary basis. the thinking was the economy would be in much better shape by now and policies could expire without causing a recession. >> learn anymore at wusa9.com and 9news. this has been a 9news fiscal cliff note.
6:46 pm
rain fell across the area today. folks in minnesota and wisconsin are digging out from nearly a foot of snow. winter storm is making for tough driving conditions on highways there. residents are being warned against strong wind gusts overnight. too early to ask about a white christmas. >> absolutely it's too early to ask about a white christmas. i am going to keep that out of the forecast for now. >> all right. >> but we have more rain on the way unfor the fetly this very pattern is going to stick around through tonight and then as we head into monday, big changes temperature wise. looking outside right now with the weather cam at capitol building and you can see the low cloud deck and fog redeveloping as we head into the nighttime hours. it's 48 degrees right now. the dew point almost exactly the same. wind are out of the north
6:47 pm
northeast at 3 miles per hour. that humidity is high. so i think we will see more of that fog developing shortly and i will show outfobbing map in a second. you can see where there is fog happening. in the weather headlines we have fog and sprinkles overnight tonight a couple light showers in a few areas but most of us will have the sprinkles and it will be much milder on monday but with a cold front on the way a. chance of thunderstorms late and after that cold front sweeps through, the cooler temperatures move back in. right now it's 46 degrees in leesburg and gaithersburg and 48 in dc and manassas and andrews. 47 in baltimore. temperatures consistent right now where as yesterday at this time we had a big variable 60s in some spots and 40s in others. today it's much more consistent with the low cloud deck and the visibility is already down to 1 mile leesburg and frederick and dc and one mile visibility and you can see about everyone has reduced visibility right now with that low cloud cover and fog developing. satellite and radar shows more of that rain heading to the
6:48 pm
north and eat. most of us -- most of this is missing us to the north and east. some tornado watches and severe thunderstorm watches chewed the -- through the south and west and i think we will see the possibility of a thunderstorm tomorrow as that same cold front makes its way towards us. on futurecast, you can see that it's just light spotty shower activity for the most part. a-as we head through the overnight hours, it will start to break up a little bit and by monday morning, just looking at clouds hanging around. and the temperatures are going to surge into the 60s. but that's trouble for when the cold front arrives. we could see some thunderstorms firing up. the map doesn't show too strong of a chance for those thunderstorms but i do think we could have thunderstorm activity after dark tomorrow. overnight tonight, just cloudy with patchy fog and showers. 44 to 48 so very mild overnight tonight. and then monday morning, it's going to start to get milder and a shower still possible in the morning hours with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. and that fog will break by mid- morning and in the afternoon, showers and the possibility of
6:49 pm
thunderstorms especially late we are talk dinner time maybe later than that. 60 to 66 for the afternoon highs on monday. it's a yellow alert day tomorrow with a high of 65 in the district on tuesday much cooler after that front passes even a little bit breezy with the high of 51. and wednesday the coolest day of the week with a high of 48 degrees. and in the 7-day forecast, we keep it a little bit cooler but still actually above normal for this time of year. this is the coldest time of year and temperatures should only be in the upper 40s. but we are going to get back into the 50s by thursday. not too bad. >> okay. we are talking about baltimore. they got reason to be concerned tonight. >> not really they might miss out on home field advantage but a win and they will clinch the division. so not too bad. >> okay. >> it's just, well, they could be on a downward spiral and you never know. battle of the beltway didn't disappoint but it was a bitter sweetened for the redskins we have the latest on the injury to robert griin iii and --

and now 9 sports with kristen beerset. >> washington redskins were looking for four wins in a row and the ravens hoping a big bounce back after loss to pittsburgh. for both teams it was about bragging rights. skins win that honor but they may have a bigger loss to deal with. rgiii and redskins looking to stay is in the playoff hunt. early on it looks like it will be a shootout. griffin with all day here finds joshua morgan for the early score but the second half was a little bit different. here's the play you will see skins down 8 griffin using his legs and gets hit in the knee. looks hyperextended and it could be bad but we don't know. whoa not be able to finish the drive but the backup kg shows why the skins wanted to draft
6:54 pm
him. big moment for cousins. he finishes off the drive with a touchdown pass to pierre and then in overtime, forebath after a long punt return with a 34-yard field goal forbath has not maced field goal he's first year guy. redskins stun the ravens. let's go out live to fed ex field where we find dave owens and i bet the redskins locker room was a joyous place to be today. >> reporter: yeah, it was a joyous place to be kb. back to that injury it was one of the injuries that even people up in the press box took a collective gasp when they saw it happened, twat like you knew it looked bad. and it looked bad and it was painful and that's what rgiii said after it. can he play next week, though? he addressed that in his post game press conference. >> i will be able to ruand do the things if it's really bad bruise. and if it's anything else, like i told coach, you know, i will fight through it and i will
6:55 pm
play next week. >> next week is a long way away hopefully he is okay and nothing too serious and maybe he can suit up next week but if not we have more than enough confidence in cousins and we will have to get it done without him. >> he is finest a trooper. that's a tough guy. he is going to bounce back without a doubt. >> reporter: rgiii the numbers were impressive. we will see if he can bounce back 246 yards passing also the touchdown joe flacco a buck 82, 3 touchdowns and critical sacks late in the game. running backs playing well and morris over 100 yards and rice 20 carries for 121 yards as well. we will have much more coming up on the mri much anticipated mri of rgiii. hopefully we will have information on that a little later. for now we are live at fed ex field now back to you kb. >> all right. dave thanks so much. don't forget to tune in to game
